Easter Brunch Snapshots

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had an Easter weekend full of joy and quality time with family. I think it's safe to say our Easter brunch was a huge success. With this brunch being the first holiday we hosted as a married couple, we really tried to make it perfect and I think it absolutely was.

Looking around our home seeing 20+ friends and family members laughing, catching up, eating, celebrating...it made my heart so content. Listening to that husband of mine pray as we all held hands before the meal...that just about put me over the top. I'm proud to be his wife always...but when he bows his head and prays...it is more than pride...it's complete adoration that I feel.

I'd love to fill you in on every little perfect detail of our day, but I think it's easier to show you.

A Few Things on this Good Friday

Happy Good Friday! I have been looking forward to this weekend so much I can't believe it's finally here. On Sunday, we're having 20+ family and friends gather in our home to celebrate Easter. We've been prepping for this brunch for weeks and I'm absolutely thrilled to be hosting such a special holiday in our home. Jonathan and I were talking about the weather forecast for the weekend and how we're supposed to get rain most of the weekend, but that it's supposed to clear up in time for Sunday, to which my husband said something along the lines of, "of course the weather will be nice; it's the resurrection...the weather is always perfect for the resurrection." Have I mentioned lately how much I love this man's soul?

I'm pretty anxious to get this weekend started, so let me share a few things and soon enough I'll be home baking some adorable Easter cupcakes.

A Few Words of Wisdom on my Mind

A Few Thoughts from this Week
  • I'm still eating very low-carb and I'm thrilled to say I'm already down a few pounds. It's crazy how hard it is at first but how quickly you adjust to new habits. I'm loving it.
  • With that being said, I'll be pushing pause on this whole thing for Sunday. Our brunch menu is shaping up to be too delicious for me to miss out on all the goodness. Cadbury mini eggs will be enjoyed and it will be well worth it. Then Monday, I'll be back at it.
  • Speaking of food, over the past 6 months or so, I've turned my baking hobby into a bit of small business on the side and within the last week, I finally came up with a name for the little thing of mine....what do you all think of this?

  • It's just a fun little thing for me to do on the side for now, but I wanted to at least have a name for it and I'm in the process of creating a small flyer to send with any orders I get to spread the word. Fun stuff!

Embracing & Celebrating the Right Now

I like to think of the different stages of life as seasons. If you ever think back on times of struggle you’ve endured, isn’t it funny to reflect on how burdened you were feeling in those circumstances? It can feel as if you’re never going to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As you northerners can attest to, it’s much like winter. By the time April rolls around and it’s still snowing, you start to wonder if it’ll ever end…if spring will ever come.

It doesn’t always go that way though, sometimes the season change is more like summer to fall, which is never a bad thing, especially for Floridians like myself. You are soaking up the long days and warm evenings of summer and loving every second. By the time fall rolls around, you welcome the season with open arms because we all know Fall means it’ll start to cool down (even if it’s only a by few degrees) and fall is full of its own excitement in the form of all things pumpkin, candy corn and adorable children dressed up as princesses and super heroes.

I guess what I’m saying is that just as the seasons change, so do the “seasons” of our life. Going through a difficult time? It will pass. I can’t promise how long it will take, but just like the snow finally starts to melt and spring arrives, the difficult time will pass and you will…bloom (sorry, I had to). I know this because I have experienced that moment of relief when you finally move out of that place.

I’ve been thinking of this a lot lately. Our engagement was such a wonderful time in our lives. It was a period full of long talks about our future, celebrations, hope and absolute joy all leading up to the most memorable day of our lives.

As the excitement and chaos of engagement and wedding planning faded away and we settled into our lives as newlyweds, we’ve found that this season is full of its own experiences and feelings of joy that make it special and unique. We’ll never be newlyweds again and this time in our lives is one we’ll look back on years from now and reminisce about.

Jonathan and I absolutely can’t wait for the day we become parents. We’re planners almost to a fault, the both of us and while at times we think it would be great to know when we’ll be blessed with the gift of a little him or a mini me, we have faith that God has a plan for us and his timing will be impeccable, as always. It’s a gift from Him that we don’t know when. Because it’s in His hands, we are able to focus on soaking in every joyous moment (and to find peace and comfort in any not-so-joyous moments) because before we know it, the leaves could change, the temperature could fall, the flowers could bloom and we’ll be moving on to another season together…a season of dirty diapers and late night feedings, of lullabies and adorable little baby feet, of unconditional love and very little sleep.

We honestly can’t wait for all of it, but in the meantime, I am so completely happy in this moment. I’m so very aware that this time in our lives is so unique and precious. It feels like life is moving at warped speed and I’m making sure I truly appreciate it while I’m living it. Simple things like shopping for patio furniture and negotiating with Jonathan over which color cushions to buy, chatting on our patio about what we need to do to prep for the Easter brunch we’re hosting at our happy home or even simply introducing this wonderful man as my husband…it’s all new and exciting and unique to the right now and I am loving every second.

Corn Hole, Crab Cakes & Cherry Blossoms

Happy Monday! We had an absolute blast in Maryland over the weekend. We went up for one of Jonathan's good friends' wedding reception. They had a private ceremony with just family and invited everyone to a casual barbecue reception. The weather was gorgeous and we spent the weekend with such a fun group.

It was perfect. So perfect that I don't even know how to tell you about it without just inundating you with the photographic proof. So here you go :)

This was the view from our hotel room.We got in super late Friday night and went right to bed. I was ecstatic to see this view when I opened the curtains on Saturday morning and saw this.

Benefits of a casual wedding reception absolutely include wearing flip flops and playing outside and I certainly didn't hate it.

Our men all told us "it's casual...just wear jeans," but I'm glad us ladies all decided we just don't operate that way. Casual dresses were a great choice.

On Sunday, Jonathan and I made the hour drive to D.C. just so we could see the cherry blossoms. Neither of us had been before and we didn't have nearly enough time to see everything, but we made it by the White House and wandered around a bit before heading to the airport.

Jonathan has been working like crazy and life has been hectic so I couldn't have asked for a better weekend away with him. It made my heart so happy to see him relaxed and taking a break from work. On this Monday morning, I'm left feeling thankful for the good friends in our lives and this current season of our lives. We are so absolutely blessed and I am constantly reminded of that.

This week is all about prepping for the big Easter brunch we're hosting. I have lots of crafting, cleaning and baking to do and I can't wait to see how everything comes together on Sunday.

How was your weekend?
