Bring on the Rain

Today was a rainy, rainy day in Orlando. I’ve decided that when you are truly happy, even gloomy, rainy days like today bring a certain kind of joy. If you are lucky enough to be home on a day like this, it is fantastic. It’s the perfect excuse to stay in bed all morning and cuddle on the couch watching movies. If you have to be out and about, even if you hate this, it’s kind of fun having to run through the rain. I’ve had my fair share of adventures getting caught in the rain without an umbrella and it always brings laughter. Even at work today, rather than my mood matching the weather and getting all sleepy and grumpy, all I wanted to do was go dance in the rain. And if you think about it, some of the best, most inspiring quotes are about rain.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.” Unknown

“And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow.” Gilbert K. Chesterton

“Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life.” John Updike

“Everybody wants happiness, nobody wants pain. But you can't have a rainbow without a little rain.” Unknown

Not to mention a few songs about rain…

Rain is a Good Thing” by Luke Bryan

Bring on the Rain” by Jo Dee Messina & Tim McGraw

Let the Rain” by Sara Bareilles

April Showers” by Sugarland

So, to recap:

Yes, driving in the rain is terrible sometimes, especially when you can’t see a thing. It messes up your hair and you curse when you realize you forgot your umbrella at home. I guess I like looking at the positives much better, like kissing in the rain, cuddling with your man during a storm, rainbows and giggling while you and three of your girlfriends try to squeeze under one tiny umbrella. Those things make me smile. That is all.

My 2011 Wish List

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a safe and fun new year’s eve. 2010 was a great year. Amazing, actually. I was kind of sad to see it come to an end, but I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want out of 2011 and how to make it even better than last.

Now, I’m not one to make resolutions, but I do have a wish list for the New Year. I guess I kind of feel like making and sticking to a resolution is a lot of pressure, not to mention the fact that some of my “wishes” are a little beyond my control. So here goes. In 2011 I want to...

  • fall in love
  • get back in shape and stay that way (I went for a run this morning, so I’m off to a great start!)
  • take more weekend trips
  • find a new job that makes me happy
  • volunteer
  • cook more (or attempt to anyway)
  • go camping (I’ve been wanting to go for years!)
  • stay out of the hospital. this means no kidney stones or rare throat infections. just be healthy.
That’s it. I am going to do my best to make some of these things happen, but what I’m looking forward to the most are the things that aren’t planned or expected…those surprises that life throws at you like new friends, fun, unplanned adventures, good times with the wrong guys, spontaneous dance parties and special moments with family.

What are you hoping for in 2011?
